Synopsis
Deep Sea (2023) is a Chinese animated film you can watch online on iFILM. A girl named Shenxiu misses the mother who left, while her father, stepmother and baby brother barely notice she's there.
During a family cruise a storm sweeps Shenxiu overboard, and underwater she washes up at the Deep Sea — a floating restaurant run by the hot-tempered chef Nanhe and staffed by strange ocean creatures. To get home she strikes a bargain and goes to work in the kitchen, but the real voyage turns out to be a trip through her own sadness. Wang Tingwen and Su Xin lead the voice cast.
Director Tian Xiaopeng (Monkey King: Hero Is Back) spent seven years on the film and built a "particle ink" technique for it: paint bleeds through water in shifting layers, so the underwater world looks like a Chinese watercolor brought to life.
