Synopsis
Lawmen: Bass Reeves (2023) is a Western drama you can watch online on iFILM, built around a man history nearly forgot. Born into slavery, Bass Reeves became one of the first Black deputy U.S. Marshals working west of the Mississippi.
David Oyelowo carries the show as Reeves. He flees his owner during the Civil War, lives among the Native nations of Indian Territory, and later pins on a badge to hunt outlaws across that same lawless frontier. The records credit him with thousands of arrests and not a single bullet wound — but the series refuses to make him a clean legend. Every capture costs him something, and his oath to the law keeps grinding against his conscience. His wife Jennie (Lauren E. Banks) holds the home together while he rides; Barry Pepper and Forrest Goodluck round out the killers and partners he meets on the trail.
This is the opening chapter of Taylor Sheridan's Lawmen anthology, from the creator of Yellowstone, with Dennis Quaid and Donald Sutherland in supporting turns. Eight episodes shot like real period cinema — dust, heat, and a slow count before the gun. If you like Westerns where the hard choice matters more than the shootout, this one lands.
