The Square

The Square (2008) is an Australian noir thriller from Nash Edgerton that you can watch online on iFILM. Construction foreman Ray is stuck in a loveless marriage and falls into an affair with his neighbour Carla — whose husband, Greg, happens to be a mobster.

Greg keeps a bag of dirty drug money in the house, and Carla floats a clean little plan: take the cash, burn the place down, sell Greg on the idea that it went up in the fire, then disappear together. On paper it's a one-night job. In practice a single slip drags in blackmail, a body, and one bad call after another. The harder Ray works to cover his tracks, the tighter the rope pulls. David Roberts plays an ordinary man who steps wrong once and can't stop sliding.

It's the feature debut of stuntman Nash Edgerton, co-written with his brother Joel Edgerton, who also turns up on screen. Dry, merciless neo-noir where small-town Australia becomes a trap.
