Synopsis
Maradona by Kusturica (2008) is a documentary you can watch online on iFILM, with Serbian filmmaker Emir Kusturica turning his camera on Argentina's most famous footballer. Forget the tidy timeline. The director cuts between archive matches, Manu Chao's music and long, looping interviews until a portrait slowly takes shape.
Kusturica never hides that he is a fan, and that bias is the whole point. He follows Diego through the "Hand of God" goal, the years lost to addiction, the friendships with Fidel Castro and Hugo Chávez, the left-wing politics and the family that kept him standing. Running roughly ninety minutes and made between Spain and France, this is less a balanced biography than one icon's love letter to another — messy, musical, openly one-sided.
