Synopsis
Modigliani (2004) is a biographical drama available to watch online on iFILM, directed by Mick Davis and starring Andy Garcia as the Italian painter Amedeo Modigliani, with Elsa Zylberstein as Jeanne Hébuterne.
Paris, 1919. The war is over but Modigliani is nearly broke, ravaged by tuberculosis, and spending whole days in the cafés of Montparnasse. Picasso has already arrived. Modigliani is still the brilliant, difficult outsider — Jewish, Italian, and too proud to compromise. When a local art competition sets the two against each other directly, what's at stake is less about prize money and more about who gets to define the era.
Garcia plays him with a ragged intensity that works: this is not a cleaned-up portrait of a suffering genius, but someone specific and difficult and genuinely hard to look away from. The ending is history — Modigliani died at thirty-five, Jeanne two days later — and the film earns the weight of that knowledge by spending its time on the last year when the outcome still felt open.
