Synopsis
The Arrangement (1969) is an American drama you can watch online on iFILM, written and directed by Elia Kazan. Advertising executive Eddie Anderson has the career, the suburban house, the wife — and a love affair with Gwen, played by Faye Dunaway. One morning he doesn't steer away from a truck. He survives, and whatever the crash is, it's also a decision.
Kirk Douglas carries the film through Eddie's slow dismantling: who agreed to all this, and when? Deborah Kerr plays the wife watching the arrangement she built her life around come apart from the inside. The film doesn't offer easy judgments, which in 1969 made it uncomfortable, and still does.
Kazan adapted his own 1967 novel — openly autobiographical — for the screenplay. The man behind On the Waterfront and A Streetcar Named Desire turned inward here, working through marriage, ambition and the cost of a life lived on borrowed terms. Stream The Arrangement (1969) online on iFILM.
