Synopsis
Splendor in the Grass (1961) is an American drama directed by Elia Kazan — stream it online on iFILM. Natalie Wood and Warren Beatty, making his film debut, play two teenagers in late-1920s Kansas whose love is dismantled not by circumstance but by the people around them who are absolutely certain they know better.
Bud Stamper's wealthy father has mapped out his son's life in advance, and Deanie Loomis doesn't fit the map. Bud drifts toward an easier girl; Deanie keeps quiet because that's what good girls do. The suppressed feeling doesn't pass — it accumulates, until Deanie's grip on reality starts to slip.
William Inge's Oscar-winning screenplay is quiet, precise and quietly devastating. Kazan, fresh off his stage work with Brando and Dean, draws from Wood a performance that feels genuinely raw rather than performed. It's a film about what repression actually costs, told at a time when Hollywood rarely said the word out loud. Watch Splendor in the Grass (1961) online on iFILM.
