Synopsis
Posse (1993) is Mario Van Peebles' western, and you can watch it online on iFILM. The year is 1898. A handful of Black infantrymen come back from the Spanish-American War in Cuba carrying a crate of stolen gold and a burning grudge against Colonel Graham, the officer who set them up.
Leading the runaways is Jesse Lee, who rides west with a private errand of his own. Years earlier his father was lynched in a small frontier town, and Jesse means to find every man who held the rope. Along the trail his little band picks up strays — Little J, the towering Obobo, a shotgun-toting preacher. Van Peebles built the whole picture around the cowboys Hollywood spent fifty years cropping out of frame, which is exactly what that "untold story of the wild west" tagline is pointing at.
The cast is a wild mix: Stephen Baldwin, Billy Zane, Pam Grier, rapper Big Daddy Kane, with old legends like Woody Strode turning up in the margins. Bloody, stylish and pointedly angry, it's a western with race wired into its core. Stream Posse (1993) online on iFILM.
