Synopsis
The Pod Generation (2023) is a near-future romantic comedy you can watch online on iFILM, written and directed by Sophie Barthes. Emilia Clarke and Chiwetel Ejiofor play Rachel and Alvy, a New York couple navigating a world where a corporation called Womb Center rents out detachable artificial wombs — egg-shaped pods that let both parents share the pregnancy experience, or at least that's the pitch.
Rachel works in tech, sees the pod as rational and modern. Alvy is a botanist who spends his days with actual living organisms and can't quite get comfortable with the idea. When they get off the waiting list, Alvy tries to be supportive while quietly second-guessing everything, and the film follows both of them through a process that is stranger, funnier and more emotionally loaded than either expected.
Barthes resists making this a cautionary tale. The technology works, the company isn't sinister, and the tension is entirely human — two people who want the same thing but feel differently about what it means to get there. Clarke and Ejiofor keep it grounded and genuinely warm. Stream The Pod Generation (2023) online on iFILM.
