Synopsis
Cold Souls (2009) is a deadpan fantasy-comedy you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Sophie Barthes. Paul Giamatti stars — as himself, an actor paralyzed by anxiety over a production of Uncle Vanya.
He finds a possible fix in a New Yorker advertisement: a Manhattan company extracts and stores your soul, relieving you of its weight. He goes through with it. His soul turns out to be the shape and size of a chickpea. Without it, playing Vanya gets easier. Then a soul-trafficking operation enters the picture — mules carrying extracted souls from St. Petersburg to New York, a Russian actress with someone else's soul implanted inside her — and Giamatti's chickpea ends up somewhere it shouldn't be. Emily Watson, Dina Korzun, and David Strathairn round out the cast.
