Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes (Season 1)
America's most notorious killer in his own words.
Synopsis
Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes (2019) is a Netflix true-crime documentary series you can watch online on iFILM. Director Joe Berlinger built four episodes around hours of audio recordings made on death row, archival courtroom footage, and sit-down interviews with journalists Stephen Michaud and Hugh Aynesworth — the two men who spent years talking with Bundy in the years before his 1989 execution.
Bundy confessed to more than thirty murders across multiple states during the 1970s, escaped custody twice, and ran his own defense at trial. In this series, he narrates much of it himself. That's what makes the project uncomfortable viewing: the recordings don't present the cartoonish villain of later Hollywood treatments. They present a man explaining himself in language that sounds, on the surface, almost coherent. Bill Hagmaier of the FBI, who interviewed Bundy extensively, appears to offer context the tapes alone can't.
For anyone who has only encountered the story through dramatizations, the primary sources collected here shift the picture considerably. Stream Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes online on iFILM.
