Synopsis
Wild Wild Country (2018) is a six-part Netflix documentary series you can watch online on iFILM, directed by brothers Chapman and Maclain Way. In the early 1980s, followers of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh arrived in rural Oregon and built a city — Rajneeshpuram — from bare desert, bringing thousands of red-clad devotees, their own police force and a land-use conflict that eventually pulled in the FBI.
At the center is Ma Anand Sheela, Rajneesh's personal secretary, who ran the commune's operations with absolute authority. What unfolds across the six episodes covers attempted murder, the first large-scale bioterrorist attack on US soil, wiretapping, and a political war with the state of Oregon — all told through archival footage and extended interviews with people who were actually there.
The series never delivers a verdict, which is precisely what makes it work. Sheela, still sharp and unapologetic in her on-camera interviews, refuses to be the villain the documentary might have handed her. Stream all episodes of Wild Wild Country (2018) online on iFILM.
