Why Don't You Just Die!

Why Don't You Just Die! (Папа, сдохни, 2018) is a Russian genre debut from director Kirill Sokolov that you can watch online on iFILM. The setup is brutally simple: a young man named Makar shows up at his girlfriend's father's apartment armed with a hammer and a plan. The father, Andrey (Vitaly Khayev), turns out to be a detective — big, experienced, and very much not easy to kill.

What follows is a closed-room escalation in which the apartment fills up, one by one, with people who all have separate, completely legitimate reasons to want Andrey dead: his estranged daughter Olga (Evgenia Kregzhde), a cheated former partner played by Mikhail Gorevoy, and Makar himself, who by the midpoint has reconsidered this whole visit several times. Sokolov structures the story through flashbacks that explain who owes what to whom — but each explanation adds a new layer of complication rather than resolving anything.
