Synopsis
The Burned Barns (1973) is a French crime thriller you can watch online on iFILM, starring Alain Delon and Simone Signoret. A woman's body turns up in the snow near an isolated farm in the Alps — she was driving from Paris to Switzerland and never arrived. Judge Larcher, played by Delon, comes to the mountain village and fixes his attention on the farm.
The matriarch, played by Signoret, doesn't flinch. Her composure is itself a kind of evidence. The family is closed off, the winter keeps everyone in place, and Larcher just keeps circling the same people with the same questions until the silence cracks.
Director Jean Chapot centered the film on the collision between two screen heavyweights: Delon's cold patience against Signoret's measured resistance. Neither gives ground easily.
