Deceiver

Deceiver (1997) is a psychological crime thriller you can watch online on iFILM. A young woman has been brutally killed, and suspicion lands on James Wayland, a brilliant, self-destructive heir to a textile fortune who also happens to be epileptic.

Two detectives haul him in for questioning, certain they can break him. They picked the wrong man. Wayland is a master manipulator, and the longer the polygraph session drags on, the more the roles slide. The suspect starts probing the investigators, dragging their own buried sins out into the light. By the end it's genuinely unclear who is the predator and who is the prey.

Tim Roth leads a sharp ensemble that includes Michael Rooker, Chris Penn, Renée Zellweger, Rosanna Arquette and Ellen Burstyn. Directed by brothers Jonas and Josh Pate, this is a chamber piece built on a verbal duel between three people in one room rather than chases or gunfire.
