Synopsis
A Pain in the Ass (L'Emmerdeur, 1973) is a French-Italian comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Hitman Ralf Milan checks into a Montpellier hotel with one job: eliminate a witness testifying the next morning. His neighbour in the adjoining room has one plan too — hang himself, badly, repeatedly, because his wife left him.
Pignon is a travelling salesman who has achieved a near-supernatural talent for making everything worse. Lino Ventura plays Milan with the controlled fury of a man watching his entire career dissolve one interruption at a time. Jacques Brel as Pignon is something else entirely — a walking disaster so committed to his own misery that he becomes almost endearing. Director Édouard Molinaro, working from Francis Veber's script, builds the comedy on a single rule: the more professional Milan tries to be, the more Pignon dismantles him.
