Synopsis
Maigret and the St. Fiacre Case (Maigret et l'Affaire Saint-Fiacre, 1959) is a French mystery you can watch online on iFILM. Jean Delannoy adapts the Georges Simenon novel, with Jean Gabin in the coat of the famous commissioner.
The Countess of Saint-Fiacre summons Maigret back to the village where he grew up. She's received an anonymous note promising she'll die on Ash Wednesday. Maigret arrives — and the next morning finds her dead in the church pew. The doctors call it a heart attack; he won't accept the coincidence. It's personal, too: his own father once managed the Saint-Fiacre estate, and the locals still remember "little Jules" as a boy. The suspects are the heirs and hangers-on circling a manor in decline.
Gabin plays it without fuss, carrying the whole film on one calm, watchful look. This is slow, talky, old-school detective work — for viewers who prize the mood of provincial France over car chases. Stream Maigret and the St. Fiacre Case (1959) online on iFILM.
