Synopsis
The Forty-Year-Old Version (2020) is an American tragicomedy you can watch online on iFILM. Radha Blank wrote it, directed it and stars in it herself, playing a woman who decides to reinvent her whole life just as she turns forty.
Her character, also named Radha, is a New York playwright. Critics once tagged her the next big thing; now she teaches theatre to teenagers and watches lesser plays open on Broadway. A month before the big birthday, she tries something absurd: becoming a rapper. She takes the name RadhaMUSPrime, writes verses past midnight and steps up to the mic while everyone her age thinks she's lost it.
Shot on grainy black-and-white 35mm, the film won Blank the directing award at Sundance. It's personal, sharp-tongued and genuinely funny about how terrifying it is to chase your own voice once you think the moment has passed. Perfect for anyone tired of glossy success stories.
