I'm Still Here

I'm Still Here (2010) is a mock-documentary comedy-drama you can watch online on iFILM. Director Casey Affleck spent a year trailing Joaquin Phoenix with a camera — starting in the fall of 2008, when Phoenix shocked audiences by announcing he was quitting acting to pursue a career in hip-hop.

What unfolds is part news footage, part art-school stunt. Phoenix grows a beard, starts rapping, grants bizarre press appearances, and delivers a now-legendary late-night interview with David Letterman so off-script that nobody in the studio could tell whether it was collapse or theatre. Assistants hover, journalists circle, and the whole spectacle raises an uncomfortable question about what fame asks of a person.
