Synopsis
Welcome to Me (2015) is a deadpan comedy-drama you can watch online on iFILM, with Kristen Wiig playing Alice Klieg — a woman with borderline personality disorder who wins the lottery and immediately uses the money to buy her own talk show. She moves into a casino, stops taking her medication, and begins broadcasting daily live programs about herself, her past, and her obsessions.
The show is a disaster by conventional standards and somehow attracts a following anyway. James Marsden and Jennifer Jason Leigh play the producers trying to figure out what they've agreed to. Tim Robbins is her long-suffering therapist. Nobody quite knows how to handle Alice — including Alice.
Director Shira Piven and writer Eliot Laurence treat the material without condescension: this isn't satire of mental illness, it's a character study of someone who is genuinely difficult and genuinely searching for something.
