Synopsis
Fresh Bait (L'Appât, 1995) — the French crime film by Bertrand Tavernier — is available to watch online on iFILM. It is based on a real murder case that made headlines across France in the early 1990s.
Nathalie (Marie Gillain) wants enough money to open a boutique abroad. Her boyfriend Eric and his friend Bruno have a plan: she lures wealthy men home, leaves the door unlocked, and they come in behind her. Robbery at first. Then someone ends up dead.
Tavernier keeps the camera observational and the violence matter-of-fact — no horror-movie build-up, just ugly things happening in ordinary apartments. That flatness is the point, and it lands harder than any thriller mechanics would. The film claimed the Silver Bear at Berlin in 1995 and a César for Best Direction.
