Death Watch
She's the target of every eye… including eyes only science could create.
Synopsis
Death Watch (La Mort en direct, 1980) is Bertrand Tavernier's science-fiction drama you can watch online on iFILM. In a near future where illness has been all but cured, a natural death has become rare enough to sell as entertainment.
A television producer builds a reality show around a dying stranger. His subject is novelist Katherine Mortenhoe (Romy Schneider), handed a terminal diagnosis she never asked to broadcast. The man filming her, reporter Roddy (Harvey Keitel), has cameras surgically wired into his eyes — whatever he sees goes out live to millions. The closer he gets to Katherine, the heavier the lie he is living becomes.
Tavernier made this decades before livestreams and reality TV, and it now plays like a warning that landed early. Harry Dean Stanton and Max von Sydow appear in support, while the grey Glasgow locations sharpen the sense of constant surveillance. Slow, humane and quietly furious about turning grief into a broadcast. Stream Death Watch online on iFILM.
