Synopsis
D'Artagnan's Daughter (La Fille de d'Artagnan, 1994) is a French swashbuckling comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Sophie Marceau stars as Éloïse, who inherited her father's blade and his taste for trouble.
It is 1654 in the south of France. Éloïse is set for a quiet life as a novice when horsemen storm the convent and cut down the Mother Superior before her eyes. Sword in hand, she chases a courtly conspiracy across the country, while her retired father (Philippe Noiret) grudgingly rounds up the old musketeers to back her up. A dashing young poet keeps getting in the way.
Bertrand Tavernier plays the whole thing as a light, affectionate riff on Dumas, where the clash of rapiers matters more than the history books. Noiret looks like he is having a ball, and Marceau handles the fencing and the romance with equal ease. Good old cloak-and-dagger fun for the whole family.
