Synopsis
One Missed Call (着信アリ, 2003) is a Japanese horror film from Takashi Miike, and you can watch it online on iFILM. This cellphone nightmare became one of the signature titles of 2000s Asian horror.
The hook is brutally simple. Your phone logs a missed call — from your own number, time-stamped three days in the future. The voicemail plays back your own voice: a stray sentence, some noise, and a dying scream at the end. Three days later you die exactly the way the recording said. Student Yumi (Ko Shibasaki) watches friend after friend get marked, and teams up with a detective who has his own grudge against the curse to break the chain before her own phone rings.
Miike, the man behind Audition, skips cheap jump scares and works the slow dread instead — knowing the precise minute of your death is its own kind of torture. The film spawned two sequels, a TV series and a 2008 Hollywood remake. If you like patient, atmospheric J-horror in the vein of Ringu, set aside an evening. Stream One Missed Call (2003) online on iFILM.
