Synopsis
Watch Good Morning, Night (Buongiorno, notte, 2003) online on iFILM — Marco Bellocchio's Italian political drama built around the true story of Aldo Moro's 55-day captivity. In the spring of 1978, the leader of Italy's Christian Democracy party was seized by Red Brigades militants and held in a secret Rome apartment while the country watched in horror.
Bellocchio tells the story through Chiara, a young female cell member whose outwardly ordinary life conceals the imprisoned statesman behind a bedroom door. As the days drag on, her certainty starts to crack. Maia Sansa plays Chiara with almost no visible seams — the performance works entirely through small hesitations and averted eyes. The director weaves in archival news footage and dream sequences, making the film feel less like a reconstruction of events and more like an autopsy of ideology.
