Deutschland (Germany, 2015) is a Cold War spy drama you can watch online on iFILM — a Sundance TV production directed by Edward Berger and Samira Radsi. Jonas Nay plays Martin Rauch, a 24-year-old East German border guard yanked into service as a Stasi undercover agent and planted inside the West German army.

Martin is not a trained operative. His mother is sick, the Stasi offer to cover her treatment, and suddenly he's living a double life in 1983 Bonn — assigned to map NATO's missile deployment plans while pretending to be someone he isn't. West Germany disorients him. The abundance, the freedom of movement, the music flooding the radio. Every small mistake could expose him, and the people he begins to care about on the western side have no idea who he really is.

Screenwriter Anna Winger made the 1983 arms race feel personal rather than political. Berger — who later directed All Quiet on the Western Front — uses the same slow-build pressure here.
