Synopsis
Upright (2019) is an Australian comedy-drama you can watch online on iFILM. Black sheep Lucky Flynn hears that his mother is dying and points his car at the far coast of the continent. His only cargo: a battered upright piano.
The trip goes wrong almost immediately. Out on an empty desert highway he runs into Meg, a teenage runaway with her own family wreckage to outdrive. So the two of them keep going together — a grown man who never quite grew up and a kid who hardened too fast — with a piano they can't afford to scratch wedged between them and thousands of kilometres of red dirt ahead. Musician and comedian Tim Minchin plays Lucky; Milly Alcock is Meg, and their bickering carries the whole road.
Minchin co-created the show and directed part of it, which explains the mix of sharp wit and small, aching scenes that sneak up on you. No grand rescue, no big lesson — just two strangers slowly deciding not to be alone. If you like intimate stories where funny and sad sit side by side, this one lands.
