Synopsis
AJ and the Queen (2020) is a road-trip comedy-drama you can watch online on iFILM. Drag queen Ruby Red drives a beat-up RV from one small-town gig to the next, until a sharp-tongued ten-year-old named AJ turns up as a stowaway and refuses to leave.
Neither of them asked for company. Ruby is running from a broken heart and an empty bank account; AJ is dodging a rough home life, and both hide the hurt behind attitude. Across Columbus, Dallas, New Orleans and a string of back-room clubs, the cramped trailer slowly becomes a home for two loners learning to trust each other. RuPaul leads the cast, with Jane Krakowski, Tia Carrere and Josh Segarra dropping in along the way.
The show was dreamed up by RuPaul and Michael Patrick King, the showrunner behind Sex and the City, and his warm streak of humor runs all through it. Ten episodes, gleefully silly and quietly tender, full of sequins, blasting ABBA and the idea that family is something you build. One for anyone who likes a road movie with real heart.
