Synopsis
Amelia (2009) is a biographical drama directed by Mira Nair — watch online on iFILM. Hilary Swank plays Amelia Earhart, the pilot who crossed the Atlantic as a passenger in 1928, then flew it solo four years later and never stopped pushing further. Richard Gere plays her publisher-husband George Putnam; Ewan McGregor takes the role of the man she loved before and alongside the marriage.
The film covers roughly fifteen years of Earhart's public life — altitude records, sold-out lecture tours, the relentless media circuit that Putnam orchestrated as skillfully as any modern publicist. Her private life was as complicated as the hand-drawn charts she navigated by. It all builds toward July 1937: the round-the-world attempt, the last radio contact somewhere above the central Pacific, and the silence that followed.
Nair shot extensively on location — Kansas airfields, period hangars, cramped propeller cockpits — and the physical detail gives the film a texture the script occasionally lacks. Swank carries it when the writing steps aside and lets her. This is a portrait of a woman determined to exist on her own terms, not an aviation procedural. Stream Amelia (2009) online on iFILM.
