Synopsis

Everything Went Fine (Tout s'est bien passé, 2021) is a François Ozon drama you can watch online on iFILM. When 85-year-old André suffers a stroke, his daughter Emmanuèle hurries to his hospital room. Once he can speak again, he asks her for a single favour: help him die.

Emmanuèle, played by Sophie Marceau, is a novelist used to managing everything, and this request leaves her with no playbook. Assisted dying is illegal in France, so the plan means Switzerland, money, a discreet organisation and lies told to every doctor on the ward. Her sister Pascale (Géraldine Pailhas) swings between helping and falling apart. André himself, half-paralysed, stays sharp, demanding and strangely full of life — André Dussollier plays a dying man with zero self-pity. Charlotte Rampling and Hanna Schygulla turn up in smaller roles.

Ozon adapted the film from the autobiographical book by Emmanuèle Bernheim, his longtime co-writer. It premiered in competition at Cannes, and what surprises isn't the subject but the tone: a story about death that lands warm and often funny, with no manipulative tears. One for viewers who want an honest family drama that refuses easy sentiment. Stream Everything Went Fine (2021) online on iFILM.
