Synopsis
Time to Leave (Le Temps qui reste, 2005) is a François Ozon drama you can watch online on iFILM. Romain, a 31-year-old fashion photographer, hears the verdict from his doctor: terminal cancer, almost no odds. He makes an unusual choice — to skip treatment, tell no one close to him, and slip away quietly rather than spend his last months drowning in pity.
What follows is a short chronicle of a goodbye that Romain stages on his own terms. He pushes his lover away, cuts ties, lashes out at the sister he's long been estranged from. The one person he tells the truth is his grandmother (Jeanne Moreau) — her alone, because she too will be gone soon. Along the way a childless couple makes an unexpected request, and it pulls Romain into one step toward life instead of away from it. Melvil Poupaud carries nearly the whole film.
This is the second part of Ozon's loose trilogy on grief, following Under the Sand. Spare, quiet, free of melodrama, it watches a man decide how to spend the months he has left. Not an easy night in, but one of Ozon's most honest looks at dying. Stream Time to Leave (2005) online on iFILM.
