About

Synopsis

Five Times Two (2004) is a French drama by François Ozon you can watch online on iFILM — five scenes from one couple's marriage, arranged in reverse chronological order.

The film opens on the divorce. From there, Ozon runs the clock backwards: a dinner party that turns into an ugly confrontation; a premature birth that Gilles is nowhere near in time for; a wedding day still lit up with optimism; and finally a lazy first encounter on an Italian beach that set everything in motion. Valéria Bruni Tedeschi and Stéphane Freiss play Marion and Gilles without softening — Françoise Fabian and Michael Lonsdale appear as Marion's quietly watchful parents, bookending the wreckage with their own long marriage.

The reverse structure is not a twist. Ozon uses it to show how knowledge shapes perception: people you read one way in scene one look entirely different once you've seen what comes before. By the time the film ends at the beginning, you are watching strangers fall in love — and you know exactly how it turns out. Stream Five Times Two (2004) online on iFILM.
