Synopsis
LA 92 (2017) is a documentary you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Daniel Lindsay and T.J. Martin. It's built entirely from archival footage — no narrator, no talking heads, no hindsight.
In the spring of 1992, a jury cleared four officers caught on a bystander's camcorder beating motorist Rodney King. The acquittal set Los Angeles alight: six days of fires, looting and street clashes that left more than sixty people dead. The directors assemble news tapes, amateur recordings and police radio into a near-minute-by-minute account that unfolds as if it were happening live.
Lindsay and Martin, already Oscar winners for documentary work, strip out every layer of commentary and leave you alone with the footage to draw your own conclusions. It's a hard, unflinching look at racial fracture, rage and the cost of injustice — and it has lost none of its charge. Stream LA 92 (2017) online on iFILM.
