Synopsis
Milli Vanilli (2023) is a music documentary you can watch online on iFILM — the full account of one of pop's loudest frauds, where two dancing frontmen became global stars without singing a note on their own records.
Rob Pilatus and Fab Morvan met as teenagers in Germany, both escaping rough homes, both chasing the same dream of the stage. Producer Frank Farian dressed them up as the act and hired other voices for the vocals. By 1990 the duo was filling arenas and holding a Grammy for Best New Artist. Then a backing tape jammed live, looping one line over and over, and the lie started to unravel. Director Luke Korem hands the mic to Morvan himself, to archival footage and to the people who were in the room.
What lingers isn't the exposure but the aftermath — how two young men paid for someone else's deceit with their names and, in Rob's case, his life. A story about the cost of fame borrowed on credit. Stream Milli Vanilli (2023) online on iFILM.
