Synopsis
Bedlam (1946) is an American thriller you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Mark Robson. London, 1761: St. Mary's of Bethlehem asylum — "Bedlam" in common parlance — is run by Master Sims as a profitable exhibition. Wealthy visitors pay to tour the ward the way they'd attend a sideshow.
Boris Karloff plays Sims without raising his voice. No theatrical menace, just competence: an administrator whose position has never given him a reason to be decent. When socialite Nell Bowen, played by Anna Lee, starts pressing for reform, he reaches for the obvious tool — have her declared insane and committed. One of Karloff's quietest performances, and precisely because of that, one of his most unsettling. Stream Bedlam (1946) online on iFILM.
