Synopsis

Earthquake (1974) is a Hollywood disaster film you can watch online on iFILM. Director Mark Robson assembled a heavyweight cast — Charlton Heston, Ava Gardner, George Kennedy, Richard Roundtree, and Walter Matthau — as Los Angeles residents whose lives collide when the biggest quake in the city's history levels Southern California.

Freeways buckle, dams crack, buildings come down on the people inside them. Each character is stranded somewhere in the city with unfinished personal business, and survival forces a reckoning with what any of it was worth. Universal Pictures released the film with Sensurround — a low-frequency speaker system that made theater seats physically vibrate during the quake sequences, an effect no home viewing can replicate.

The film claimed the Academy Award for Sound. By 1974 standards the destruction sequences were genuinely staggering, and Earthquake holds its place as a defining entry in the disaster-film cycle that dominated American cinema through the decade. Stream Earthquake (1974) on iFILM.
