Bed of Roses

Lewis (Christian Slater) runs a flower shop and lives alone, still carrying the loss of a pregnant wife years ago. Lisa (Mary Stuart Masterson) is a high-powered investment banker whose every minute is booked and whose heart is bolted shut. Behind that armor sits a rough childhood spent as an orphan. Lewis courts her the old-fashioned way, filling her apartment with roses, and Lisa has no clue what to do with a man who wants nothing back.

This was the directing debut of Michael Goldenberg, who would later write Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. It's a hushed, unhurried story about how frightening it is to let someone close after trust has burned you before. A young Josh Brolin appears in a small part.
