Synopsis

Gloria Wandrous is a high-priced call girl you reach through the Butterfield 8 telephone exchange. Sharp, willful and scarred by an unhappy childhood, she drifts from one man to the next without letting anyone close. Then she falls for Weston Liggett, a married man with old money and a respectable life — and the affair becomes less a romance than a running battle of desire, jealousy and self-sabotage.
The script comes from John O'Hara's 1935 novel, scandalous in its day. Laurence Harvey plays opposite Taylor, and Eddie Fisher — her husband at the time — turns up in a smaller part.
