Synopsis
The League of Gentlemen (1960) is a British crime comedy you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Basil Dearden. A bitter ex-colonel assembles a gang of cashiered officers to rob a bank with military precision.
Colonel Hyde, furious at being pensioned off after years of service, recruits seven fellow ex-servicemen — each broke, each hiding something, each a trained expert at his old trade. The heist is drilled like a combat operation, every minute rehearsed, discipline absolute. Jack Hawkins, Nigel Patrick and Richard Attenborough head a cast of crooks who'd have earned medals for planning it this well.
Dearden plays the robbery with dry English wit, and half the fun is watching parade-ground order collide with civilian mess. Bryan Forbes wrote the script and turns up in the gang himself, while a teenage Oliver Reed appears in a blink-and-miss bit part. Naturally, it all comes down to one small thing nobody accounted for.
