Synopsis
Look Back in Anger (1959) is a British drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Tony Richardson and adapted from John Osborne's 1956 stage play — the production that put the phrase "Angry Young Men" on the cultural map and shook London theatre out of its drawing-room comfort. Richard Burton plays Jimmy Porter, a university graduate running a sweet stall in the English Midlands and pointing his frustration at everyone within reach.
His wife Alison takes most of it. He loves her and grinds her down in the same breath. When her friend Helena steps in and persuades Alison to leave, Jimmy simply pivots. Osborne wrote no clean villain here, and Burton doesn't soften him — the performance is grating, electric, and completely controlled.
Richardson shot on real Midlands locations with a semi-documentary eye, which made the film feel rawer than most British productions of the period. The play had already made Osborne a name; this version brought that argument to audiences who had never been near a stage. Stream Look Back in Anger (1959) online on iFILM.
