Synopsis
House of Wax (1953) is a Warner Bros. horror classic you can watch online on iFILM, directed by André de Toth and shot in 3D — one of the first major studio films to use the format. Vincent Price plays sculptor Henry Jarrod, and an early supporting role belongs to a young Charles Bronson.
Jarrod's wax museum is his life's work: historical figures rendered with uncanny precision. His business partner, eyeing the insurance money, burns it all down with Jarrod inside. Years later a new Chamber of Horrors opens nearby — its figures even more lifelike than before. People have been going missing in the neighbourhood. The resemblance between the wax displays and the missing is not coincidental.
Price plays the role as a ruined artist rather than a monster, and that distinction is what separates the film from lesser creature features of its era. The horror comes from obsession curdled into something irreversible — not cheap shocks. Stream House of Wax (1953) online on iFILM.
