Synopsis
The Astronaut Farmer (2007) is an American family drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Michael Polish. Billy Bob Thornton plays Charles Farmer, a Texan astrophysicist who left NASA's astronaut program to save the family ranch after his father died — and never quite gave up on going to space. There is a rocket in his barn. A real one, built over two decades with his own hands.
When Charles tries to file a flight plan, the FAA shuts him down. The FBI puts the ranch under surveillance. The bank is closing in. His wife, played by Virginia Madsen, stands by him through all of it, even when the neighbours think he's lost his mind. Bruce Dern and J.K. Simmons appear in supporting roles. The film is less about the rocket and more about what happens to a man who refuses to let go of the one thing that made him feel alive.
