Breath

Breath (숨, 2007) is a South Korean drama from Kim Ki-duk that you can watch online on iFILM. Reeling from her husband's affair, the artist Yeon catches a TV report about a death-row inmate who has just tried to kill himself in his cell.

She talks her way into prison visits with the stranger, Jin. Each time, she redecorates the bare meeting room as a different season — spring wallpaper, summer, autumn — and sings to him. Between a woman trapped in a dead marriage and a man with weeks left to live, an odd, almost wordless intimacy takes hold. Taiwan's Chang Chen plays Jin; Park Ji-a is Yeon.

The film screened in competition at Cannes. Kim Ki-duk works with barely any dialogue, leaning on glances, color and long silences — beautiful and deeply uneasy at once, which is exactly his signature.
