Synopsis
Rez Ball (2024) is a sports drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Navajo filmmaker Sydney Freeland. The setup is familiar — a team loses its best player and has to find a way forward — but the setting isn't: a Native American reservation high school where basketball is less a pastime and more the thing the whole community organizes itself around.
After their star is gone, the players face a question that goes past adjusting a lineup. They've always had someone to follow. Now they have to figure out how to function without one. Jessica Matten, Kauchani Bratt, Amber Midthunder and Julia Jones anchor the cast.
Freeland worked with actual reservation athletes, and the game sequences show it. The style of play on screen is real rez ball — fast, physical, shoot-before-you-think basketball that looks nothing like anything built for television.
