Synopsis
The Continent (后会无期, 2014) is a road-trip drama you can watch online on iFILM, sending three young men from China's easternmost island clear across the country to its far western edge. Their island is being resettled, the old life is gone, and they climb into a car not really knowing whether any of them will drive back.
This is the directorial debut of Han Han — a hugely popular blogger, racing driver and novelist — and it carries his signature wry, melancholy voice. Along the road the trio lose money, faith and a few illusions, pick up odd strangers, and argue about love and friendship the way twenty-somethings do when they still think everything lies ahead. Feng Shaofeng, Chen Bolin and Wallace Chung head the cast.
There isn't much plot in the usual sense. The film lives in its dialogue, its silences and its endless highway scenery — a mood piece, not an adventure, bitter and funny and quiet all at once.
