Synopsis
Northanger Abbey (2007) is a BBC adaptation of Jane Austen's novel you can watch online on iFILM. Director Jon Jones cast a then-unknown Felicity Jones as Catherine Morland, with Carey Mulligan and JJ Feild rounding out the lead trio.
Catherine has read too many Gothic novels for her own good. A stay in Bath brings her a charming love interest in Henry Tilney — and an invitation to his father's imposing family estate. Alone in those stone corridors, Catherine's imagination runs wild: locked rooms, a brooding general, and one suspicious wing that nobody will explain. The truth, when it comes, turns out to be far more mundane — and far more human — than any haunted horror she'd dreamed up.
Austen wrote the novel as a gentle skewer of Gothic fiction, and this 93-minute adaptation keeps that dry wit intact. It's lighter in tone than Pride and Prejudice but every bit as sharp in its social observations. Stream Northanger Abbey (2007) online on iFILM.
