Synopsis
Satan's Slaves (Pengabdi Setan, 2017) is an Indonesian horror film directed by Joko Anwar — watch online on iFILM. It's 1981, and a family is slowly falling apart. The mother, once a recording artist with a following, has been bedridden for years. When she finally dies, the grief lasts about one evening before something else starts moving through the house.
The father leaves for the city to sort out the debts. The children are left with their grandmother in a property that feels wrong in the kind of way you can't name. Doors, sounds, a shape at the window. The eldest daughter starts digging into who their mother actually was — and the answers are worse than the haunting.
Joko Anwar builds the film on patience and period atmosphere rather than jump cuts, and it pays off. The rural Java setting in 1981 gives the horror a specific texture that most Western genre films can't replicate. The sequel followed in 2022. Stream Satan's Slaves (2017) on iFILM.
