That Evening Sun

Abner Meecham is eighty years old and done with the nursing home his son put him in. He walks out and heads straight back to the Tennessee farm where he was raised — only to find it rented to Rudy Kasket, a man he's despised for decades. Abner refuses to leave. He moves into the barn and digs in. Ray McKinnon plays the tenant; Mia Wasikowska is his teenage daughter, caught in the middle of a standoff that keeps escalating. Walton Goggins and Barry Corbin round out a strong ensemble.

Adapted from a William Gay story — a Tennessee writer working in the dark-realist tradition — the film is less about property than about a man who has nothing left except his stubbornness and his history with that land.
