Hansel & Gretel

There's nothing for children in this fairy tale. Hansel & Gretel (2013), a horror film from director Anthony C. Ferrante, is ready to watch online on iFILM. Two teenage siblings lose their way in deep woods and stumble onto an isolated house. The woman inside seems welcoming — until the door shuts and they learn that no one leaves her place alive.

This is a loose, bloody update of the Brothers Grimm dragged into the present day: forget the gingerbread cottage, this is a cluttered den where captives are kept like livestock. Gretel stalls for time and fights to save her brother while their host prepares a far grimmer fate. Ferrante leans on dread and bodily horror rather than cheap jump scares.

Dee Wallace, familiar from E.T. and The Howling, plays the unhinged recluse. Ferrante would later become known for the trashy Sharknado saga, and you can already see his taste for blunt, no-frills genre horror here.
