Lawyer Iris has things organised. Then her mother breaks a silence kept for decades: Iris has an older half-brother, Ray — an autistic man convicted of murdering a neighbour and her five-year-old daughter, now held at a forensic psychiatric clinic. When Iris visits him, something registers. Ray reminds her of her own autistic son, Aron. She starts digging.

The procedural plot is almost secondary to what the film is actually arguing — that when a justice system doesn't know how to read a person with autism, it can convict the wrong one and feel entirely confident doing it.
